Jerusalem Sage

Native Range: Southern Europe

Sun/Shade: Full sun or part shade

Flowers: Beautiful yellow flowers in April/May.

Landscape Use: The silver/gray foliage contrasts nicely with other greenery making an interesting addition to any landscape as a shrub substitute or merely as a flowering perennial. This plant is almost evergreen, though it loses leaves occasionally. Some people love its look while other do not.

Container Use: Beautiful and unusual in a container in the cooler growing season. Let the pot dry out some, without causing wilt and then re-water.

Size: 3’ feet tall by 3’ feet wide

Type: Evergreen flowering shrub

Deer Resistance: Very Deer resistant

Drought Tolerance: Very drought tolerant but looks best with occasional watering.
Soil: Not particular about soil as long as it drains well and does not remain constantly wet. Does well in rocky soil or even better with soil enhancement.

Water: Smart Watering Principle=Water well when first planted then allow to dry slightly, without wilting, then water deeply again, etc. Do not keep constantly wet.

Fertilizer: Looks even better with regular fertilization.

Maintenance Tips: Cut back in the fall to keep it growing bushy and less woody. Do not cut back severely in the summer heat. When disturbed the plant gives off a fine hairy particle that can cause a scratchy throat. It grows best in the cooler growing season months.
