Shantung Maple

Finding a Maple tree that can handle the harsh South Central Texas climate is a difficult task. Most Maples have no problem with our cold snaps, but die off in the brutal summers. Of the handful of maples who can survive, the Shantung Maple is one of even fewer than can thrive. Extremely drought and heat resistant, the Shantung Maple has no problem with San Antonio, Castroville, Helotes, Austin and South Central Texas. The Shantung has a unique color pattern on its leaves and makes a beautiful orange yellow fall foliage. Shantung Maples grow medium tall, making them a great understory tree in the small ornamental class.
